Psychologist Simon Andrews, of Optimistic Kids, has found through his research and experience that many children benefit greatly when taught to look at situations in a more accurate and positive way. Research indicates that optimistic thinking builds resilience against depression.

Simon Andrews and Alipate Carlisle (Power player) delivered an interactive talk for parents and kids on July 7th at Alberton at 4.30 pm.

The talk entitled “Building resilience in your children" gave an introduction to life skills that are increasingly relevant and important for every child.
In August 2001 Simon consolidated his knowledge and experience by travelling to the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia to undertake the Penn Resiliency Program (PRP) training.
The program was developed by Dr Martin Seligman. He is Kogod professor of psychology, former director of clinical training in psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, and past president of the American Psychological Association. Dr Seligman has authored 12 books including Authentic Happiness and Learned Optimism.
